Laguna Resorts & Hotels Public Company Limited, owner of the Laguna Phuket destination resort, has announced that operations of the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, one of Phuket’s longest-established luxury hotels, will transfer on 30 June 2011 from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. to Angsana Hotels & Resorts, a division of Singapore-based Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts.
The 419-room hotel, part of the Laguna Phuket destination resort on Bang Tao beach, will be closed from 1 July 2011 for extensive renovation and refurbishment works to the sum of THB 500 million that will cover all rooms and public areas of the main hotel, and reopen as the Angsana Laguna Phuket on 1 Dec 2011.
The hotel has been operating under the Sheraton and Luxury Collection brands of Starwood Hotels & Resorts since 1992, in an operations agreement between Starwood and hotel owner Laguna Resorts & Hotels.
Upon approaching the management contract renewal date, the owner and operator mutually agreed to end their operations agreement on 30 June, after discussion and re-evaluation of their strategies for the future. Read the rest of this entry »

Centara Hotels & Resorts is to open the Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket in October 2010, a newly-built resort property at Karon Beach on the island of Phuket.
The hotel is one of the few at Karon to be set directly at the edge of the sand, most of the existing properties being on the other side of the beach road.
Designed in a colonial style with Sino-Portuguese architecture, the five-star resort is Centara’s fourth property in Phuket.

Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas has announced great value Summer Special rates for guests staying in May or June 2010.
The 68-villa Outrigger property is part of the Laguna Destination Resort Phuket at Bang Tao beach, a 20-minute drive from Phuket international airport.
The two-bedroom villa is THB 4,000 (US$125) per night. The three-bedroom pool villa is THB 7,000 (US$219). The four-bedroom pool villa is THB 11,000 (US$344). All rates include in-room daily continental breakfast. The Summer Special rates are subject to 18.7% tax and service charges.
At the resort, Outrigger guests have signing privileges at 30 food and beverage outlets and spa facilities across Laguna Destination Resort Phuket, and at the nearby Laguna Phuket Golf Course. Outrigger Serenity Terraces Resort in Rawai, Phuket is now fully open. Phase II was completed in November with the addition of the rooftop pool suites, each with their own lap pool. The resort soft opened on 2 April.
The 120 square-metre one-bedroom roof top suites offer 360-degree panorama views from the infinity edge pools over the inner Andaman Sea and across the tree tops of southeast Phuket.
