Changi Airport Group (CAG) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a collaborative airports arrangement with Chongqing Airport Group. The MOU paves the way for both parties to explore collaborations between the airports through joint projects and staff exchanges, on areas such as terminal management, route development and commercial management.
The MOU was signed in Chongqing, China, this morning by Mr Wong Woon Liong, Senior Director of CAG’s Changi Airport Advisory Group, and Mr Zhao Jiang Ping, General Manager, Chongqing Airport Group. It was witnessed by Ms Tong Xiao Ping, Vice Mayor of Chongqing Municipal Government.
At the same time, following its first commercial consultancy, Changi Airports International (CAI), CAG’s dedicated subsidiary for overseas ventures, has sealed two additional consultancy projects with Chongqing Airport Group for Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. Chongqing Airport is a major air hub in China and one of China’s busiest airports. In line with the region’s economic growth, traffic at Chongqing Airport has grown rapidly in recent years. The two projects cover a review of Chongqing Airport’s passenger transfer operations and proposed improvements to its retail environment.
CAI’s first commercial consultancy for Chongqing Airport Group was in 2008. That project saw CAI increasing the airport’s commercial space by 30%, thereby improving the revenue potential of Chongqing Airport. With the latest projects, CAI hopes to raise service standards at Chongqing Airport and optimise its commercial revenue and efficiency in line with the airport’s growth potential. More than five years in the making, Soneva Kiri is set to impress even the most loyal fan of the first two Soneva properties in the Maldives. Just one hour south-east of Bangkok, accessed by the resort’s private plane, Soneva Kiri will be unveiled on the December 8, 2009 as the new global benchmark for Intelligent Luxury and will attract discerning guests who enjoy a touch of hedonism with their sustainability.
To launch this latest and most extraordinary Soneva, a stunning portfolio of images through the lens of Hip Hotels founder Herbert Ypma will be revealed during ILTM 2009 in Cannes. “We have known Herbert for over 15 years and commissioned him for this project as he is the most recognised cutting-edge photographer in the hospitality field”, said Six Senses founder Sonu Shivdasani. “Herbert has the skill to capture the unique visual aspects of the resort, as well as its soul, and we look forward to sharing the unveiling of his work with our guests at ILTM”.
Herbert’s collection will follow the visitor’s journey to the unique island of Koh Kood, showing off the island’s pristine beaches, beautiful jungles and the vast beach and hillside villas that make up the resort. The photography will focus on communicating many of the traditional Soneva features such as the natural and sustainable building materials and the organic, edible landscaping so characteristic of the resorts’ S.L.O.W.L.I.F.E. philosophy but will also delve into the array of culinary delights and the plentiful range of guest experiences on offer for all ages and tastes. A Carbon Zero Eco Villa will showcase the full range of futuristic environmental technologies that Six Senses is so renowned for.
Also featured in the collection will be: the twenty-nine pool villa suites; the twenty-six privately-owned residences, the Thai-style kantoke Dining Room, the Cooking Hut, the immense ice cream parlour (featuring locally-grown honey flavours) and adjoining chocolate room, the gourmet deli, the full range of restaurants, the wine-cellar, Cinema Paradiso, the already infamous Treetop Dining, the children’s Den, and the Six Senses Spa.

Qatar Airways is celebrating the launch of scheduled services to Australia following the airline’s inaugural flight into Melbourne on 6 December 2009 night.
The new Doha – Melbourne route signals the beginning of Qatar Airways’ operations to Australia, and adds another continent to the airline’s rapidly expanding global network. Melbourne becomes the award-winning airline’s 85th destination and fourth new route of 2009. The carrier plans to launch flights to Sydney next year.
On board the maiden flight QR030 from Doha was the airline’s Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker, who led a high-profile delegation, including the Australian Ambassador to the UAE and Qatar, His Excellency Doug Trappett, international media and senior company executives.
Qatar Airways is operating its newest aircraft – a Boeing 777-200LR delivered less than four weeks ago – on the route, flying initially three-times-a-week on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Doha-based airline takes delivery of another Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft direct from Boeing’s Seattle manufacturing base this month and will use the aircraft on the Melbourne route, stepping up frequency to daily from 1 January 2010.
Victorian Government Minister of Tourism and Major Events, The Honourable Tim Holding provided an official welcome for Qatar Airways at the State Government Offices in Melbourne, where a joint press conference was held this morning. Read the rest of this entry »
