For almost a century, the Thai resort region of Hua Hin and Cha Am has attracted the country’s most noble residents for its white-sand beaches, for its mountainous backdrop, for its proximity to Bangkok, the nation’s capital.

Now the area’s premier properties including nine posh hotels, an award-winning golf club and a singular vineyard – are teaming to take the destination to another level with a publicity campaign called “It’s in Hua Hin.”

Launched today at www.itsinhuahin.com, the initiative is aimed at promoting the world-class accommodations and activities available in and around the hundred-year-old city of Hua Hin and neighboring beach town of Cha Am, less than three hours’ south of Bangkok by car.

“Anyone who’s been to Hua Hin and Cha Am knows this stretch of coastline has a lot to offer,” said Boyd Barker, general manager of Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa, one of the program’s founding members. “But not everyone’s been yet. We want to get the word out about this destination – a destination that’s been the choice of royalty for decades – and we think by banding together, and speaking to the world with one voice, we can do just that.”

Hua Hin became a popular retreat among Thai sovereigns in 1921, when a railway station and hotel were erected to service elite train travelers between Bangkok and Singapore. Today, it’s the full-time residence of the world’s longest serving monarch, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. This year, the town celebrates its centennial.

Long one of Thailand’s seafood capitals, the Hua Hin and Cha Am region has increased its overall tourism allure during the past two decades thanks to an influx of high-end hotel brands. In fact, many of its resorts are now mainstays in the awards issues of the most prestigious publications in the world. And celebrities – such as tennis greats Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams, who competed here in an exhibition match earlier this month – have taken notice. Read the rest of this entry »

Singapore Airlines will be introducing new cabin products on some of its Boeing 777-200 aircraft from later this month.

A total of 11 B777-200s will be refitted with the Airline’s most recent cabin offerings, to provide additional space, comfort and greater product consistency across the fleet. The refitted B777-200s will be configured with 38 Business Class and 228 Economy Class seats.

Business Class will feature a genuine leather, incline lie-flat seat in a modern design. Also found on Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A330-300 aircraft, it boasts a personal partition and advanced control panel that enables the customer to personalise seating preferences or select from various preset options. A six-way adjustable headrest and lumbar support will provide maximum ergonomic support for a more comfortable rest.

The Economy Class cabin will be refurbished with a new contemporary look. Seat covers, designed by Givenchy, will feature soothing colours as well as richer and softer fabrics, similar to those found on Singapore Airlines’ new Airbus A380 and B777-300ER aircraft.

Enhancements will also be made to Singapore Airlines’ award-winning KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system, for better Audio-Video On Demand features in both cabin classes, such as a more intuitive and user-friendly graphical interface. Business Class seats will feature larger 15.4-inch screens, while screens in Economy Class will be increased to 9 inches later this year.

The first refitted B777-200 aircraft will operate on the Singapore-Shanghai route from 23 February. As more B777-200s are refitted, selected flights to Beijing, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hong Kong and Chennai will also be operated with these aircraft. Read the rest of this entry »
